This month we are focused on Childhood Cancer Awareness. Cancer is the number one killer of children, yet out of billions of dollars in cancer research, only 4% is invested into childhood cancer research.
There are things each of us can do to bring recognition to this fight. Donations to established institutions is one way. St. Jude’s is a cause we support annually. This organization, through its research, has increased the survival rate of children with cancer from 20% to 80% in the past several decades. However, statistically most childhood cancers, even once cured, lead to a lifetime of long-term effects.
This is a subject that is difficult to discuss, even more devastating to experience. Let us who are the fortunate ones always be mindful and grateful for the health of our own children.
